OUR STORY

A THRESHERS franchise owner has decided to go it alone following a mass closure of stores by the retailer. David Davies, who has run the Sketty branch for around 23 years, has pledged to keep its doors open.It means the jobs of five staff working at the Eversley Road store have been saved.

Mr Davies aged 51, of Cockett, said it was business as usual for the store I have been very well-supported over the years by my loyal customers. I've seen babies born, who have now grown up to be customers of mine,It's a very social line of work. It's not like working in an office.You meet some great people.

The former steelworker, who first moved into the off-licence industry back in the 1980s, said he had seen a number of changes over the years. When he started work in the industry, the shop was under the name of Robinson Cooper, but it then changed to Peter Dominic before going on to become known as Threshers. At the same time, it has had to face growing competition from cheap booze prices in supermarkets.

He said I am not looking to break into the food line and would instead look to consolidate the products I currently have on sale. We are probably one of the best wine shops in South Wales, and it always has been. We will be concentrating on wine, champagne and spirits. As a newly independent shop free from Threshers we will offer the same deals and more in the coming months.
